More than 150 nomadic herders of the Khangai Mountains in central Mongolia have created the first Cooperative able to comb and to export Baby Yak dehaired Fibres. The challenging objectives: to re-equilibrate livestock composition, to handle the risks of desertification, to preserve the nomadic traditions, to develop alternative income resources through an Eco and Sustainable philosophy.
Sustained by Agronomist and Veterinaries without Borders (AVSF) the Cooperative as produced an outstanding Yak Down and has started from 2012 to implement a handmade spinning activity in order to generate family’s new incomes, to enhance women economic status as well as social range of the Tsetserleg sedentary women.
Each yarn ball is made from pure Baby Yak down Fiber according to strict quality standards, according to a Sustainable and Fair Trade philosophy. The “Khangai Mountains Yak herders Cooperative” signed its Baby Yak Down with its Label of Origin. Each woman signed the ball she has realized. These are the signs of a full commitment and traceability.
